Louis Verbeke Chairman, Vlerick Management School

"The Vlerick Management School which now has campuses in Ghent, Leuven, St-Petersburg and Beijing was born in Ghent. Its nervous center is still there. Its international development was strongly supported by the mayor of Ghent and the Governor of the Province. Our international students in particular find Ghent an exciting and beautiful place. Ghent and the School is an old love affair which is going from strength to strength."

Top region in Europe

Regarding transport, the "Foreign Direct Investment Magazine" chose Flanders as the top region in Europe. The "European Distribution Report" puts Belgium in first place for establishing transport and distribution activities. Ghent is an important link. The biggest advantages for establishing logistics activities in Ghent are the availability of the port, the favorable position in the heart of the European Pentagon and the quick transport connections.

Renowned companies

A large number of renowned companies have a European distribution center in the Port of Ghent, including Honda (cars), Gates (rubber), Citrosuco and LD Dreyfus (fruit juice). Other big logistics players are Katoen Natie, Tower Automotive Belgium en DSV Solutions.

Possibilities

The possibilities for logistics activities are plentiful in Gent. In the coming years, the port region will offer 300 ha of new ground for logistics and industrial purposes, in addition to the existing 200 ha free space around the Kluizen dock. Other developments such as het Eilandje in Zwijnaarde (18 ha) and Oostakker (35 ha) offer possibilities for the near future.
