Biggest university
Ghent is the biggest city in Flanders for education with more than 57,000 students. At the core is a well-established and extensive college and university offering.
Ghent University has 30,000 students, spread over 11 departments and 1,560 external paid researchers. In 2005, 347 doctorates where awarded at Ghent University. The biggest group comes from the Faculty of Sciences (84), followed by Bioengineering (58) and Engineering (51).
Student City
Ghent has 4 higher education colleges. The Hogeschool Gent and the Arteveldehogeschool are the largest higher education colleges in Flanders. Other colleges are the Catholic college Sint-Lieven and the Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst Gent. All this makes Ghent the biggest student city in Flanders and as a result there is a huge pool of knowledge in the region from which high-technology companies eagerly recruit!
Famous Management School
In 2006, the well-known Vlerick Leuven Ghent Management School slipped into the world-ranking top 40 in Executive Education at 29th place. It is the only school in Benelux included by the Financial Times in this prestigious top 40. In The Economist's worldwide MBA ranking, the school is at 25th place.
